PIROLANO FRANCESCO MARIA MAZZOLA,
called PARMIGIANO (1503 - 1540)
Eros Carving A Bow, 1533/1534
..

It is said that Parmigiano who created this painting was of angel-like beauty himself when he was a child.

The piece of wood from which Eros carves his bow is the club of Hercules - an inuendo to the fact that love conquers even the strongest.
Peter Paul Rubens liked this painting so much that he made a copy of it.
